First bottle

Georgie got her first bottle of breastmilk yesterday. Neither Nikki nor I really wanted to ever give her one. When we are in Montana this fall, Nikki will be gone for long stretches and we'll have to then. So we thought best to start now so she doesn't reject it then. Actually, we're well behind when it's recommended that you start, but I think we'll be fine. The first bottle was...interesting. I thought it would be a fun, nice moment but it was more stressful than anything. I was nervous that I wouldn't get the bottle just right and she'd either hate it or choke on it or love it so much that she never nursed again. Well it went ok at first. She didn't seem to even act like anything was different. Then she sort of figured it how to use it and really started going at it strongly. Then I must have turned to the wrong angle for a second or something because it was like it suddenly dawned on her that something's not right. She started really crying and the old-fashioned feeding method was the only thing that calmed her.

We found this bottle at Babies R Us. It had good reviews on various websites that are trustworthy so we went with it. It's called Adiri.

Georgie forgave me for my silicone trick. We took a walk and all was better.

We're going to San Antonio in a few weeks and if we can get occasional bottlefeeding established then Nikki and I are going to leave Georgie with her grandparents and have an actual date.

Hi guys! I've been loving reading your blog. It's making me want to start one!
I really like "Born Free" bottles, by the by. They are free of Bisphenol a, a controversial little chemical. Unfortunately, the bottles are a little pricey at $10 a piece. We discovered them after Rosie had become comfortable with breast and bottle, so I'm not sure how great they are wrt avoiding "nipple confusion".

Thanks, Jess! Yeah, I think we should try out different bottles and nipples; thanks for the recommendation. This adiri one is also BPA-free. I hate all of it, especially pumping, but am trying to have a positive attitude about it. Start a blog! Or AT LEAST send me some pictures of your girls!
