Sunday afternoon with Georgie

I had the privilege of spending quite a bit of papa/daughter time with Georgie today. First this morning we went to the bookstore and, while we did take mommy, Georgie and I stuck to the kids section while mommy worked in the cafe downstairs. Georgie was less interested in the books and more interested in saying his to all the kids and telling them if they were a boy (boydi) or girl (girdi) or a baby (waaaaaaa!). Actually she has a new alternate name for baby besides her fake cry. Since she found out about her new cousin Annie she's started calling all little babies Annie.

After we all had naps, Georgie and I played at home for awhile. We mostly had fun teasing Nino, our younger cat. I would ask him if he was some word (a banana, a horse) and Georgie would die laughing. Nino just sat there with his ever-present "I hate you all and especially the little one" look.

Then Georgie and I went to Target on a mission to buy a candy thermometer (for forthcoming fudge attempt) and something fun for her. The fun thing wound up being a little keyboard that plays several songs she knows, including Polly Wolly Doodle and Michael Finnegan. So she loved it and started clapping. She clapped all over the store while playing it. In this video she is clapping and stops only because a boy came over to see what all the racket was about. The boy even asked to 'borrow' the toy but I had to tell him no.

Sorry it's sideways, it's from my phone.

After Target we drove around looking for our next endeavor. We were on Glebe Rd. and spotted a Latino street festival. I saw women in colorful dresses dancing so I found parking and went, thinking Georgie might like it. It's was kind of a neat event -- there were bilingual booths set up to tell recent immigrants about things like homeownership. But the dancers were gone, replaced with men singing ballads in some kind of Latin Idol competition. Not interesting to a 1.5 year old so we carried on.

We were both pretty hungry so I decided to take Georgie to Ted's Montana Grill in Ballston. The namesake Ted is Ted Turner and the restaurant is geared around bison, probably most of which is raised on his ranch(es?) in Montana. An exciting new development took place here - Georgie sat in her first booster seat. We had a booth and the table was just the right distance so I asked for one instead of a high chair. It was a lot of fun. Here's Georgie feeding me a pickle while I try to take a picture:

I had a bison burger and Georgie had bison meatloaf, though she ended up mostly eating bites of my burger and we took the meatloaf home to mommy.

We ended our night by meeting Nikki, Rachelle, Lubo, and Milena at the swimming pool.

I don't normally get to spend so much solo time with Georgie. And while it's funnest with Nikki around, I find it really rewarding to just spend time one-on-one sometimes. I feel like I wouldn't totally know her if I didn't.
