Snow day

We got quite a bit of snow this morning. From the looks of the gate above, at least 3 inches. And it's still coming down. Georgie got to play with a little and seemed perplexed by it.

Hi Irene!

I grew up in Texas, but my family is from Michigan. My great-great-grandfather Walter Hobbins immigrated there from Lincolnshire in the 1880s I believe.

Nice to see another Hobbins!

Aaron--Walter Hobbins immigrated to America in 1878 according to his information in the 1900 Federal census taken at Sandstone Twp., Jackson Co., MI. In 1880 he was living with his brother Fredrick in Concord, Jackson Co., MI. By 1900 Walter had married and there were seven children in the family. His brother Fredrick had eight by that time, though one had already died. I am not a Hobbins descendant but I have a 2nd cousin who is. According to an 1861 census taken of England and Wales, there was a Walter Hobbins, age 0 (not yet a year old), a son living at Maidenwell, Lincolnshire, England. Also listed as a son living at Lincolnshire in 1861 was a 15-year-old Fredrick Hobbins, the same age as my cousin's ancestor Fredrick, who immigrated to America in 1870. Unfortunately I cannot access the entire Lincolnshire family as a group, since it requires a paid membership in the findmypast.com UK Census Collection.

I've been putting together the family tree for the texas and michigan hobbins'. send me an email if you'd like to take a look at what i've put together.

I'm going on the theory that because Hobbins is a unique name we all originate from one place.
