Fort Washington

Nikki had a lot of work to do today so Georgie and I got out of her hair. First we went to some neighborhood playgrounds. Then she fell asleep in the car so I just started driving. I went down 395 till we got to the beltway, then I decided to take the beltway from Springfield to Alexandria. This is the only stretch of the beltway I've never been on. So now I've done the whole thing. I can't even say that about Loop 410 I don't think.

Once I got across the Woodrow Wilson bridge, I decided to make my way down the Maryland side of the Potomac a ways. I got to the Fort Washington turnoff and went into the park. Georgie woke up about then.

We got in free, thanks to our national parks pass. We walked about a half mile along the shore on a trail and then stopped and fished a little. Then we explored the fort.

This is Georgie's new move she's working on. She leans back as far as she can. It really entertains her.

Creepily boarded up military building at Fort Washington.

Lighthouse at the bottom of the fort.
The main fortification in the background.

This is the ruins of some kind of waterworks for the fort.

Georgie, relaxing on a wall overlooking the Potomac.

The fort is right in the path of planes landing at Reagan National. Georgie loved that there were always planes overhead.
