Two Firsts and a 300th

Georgie and I went out to the ballpark today to see the Nationals play the SF Giants. This was my first trip to the Nationals ballpark and Georgie's first baseball game period. It was also an opportunity for Randy Johnson to get his 300th win. He had a chance to get it last night but the game was rained out.
When we got there, things were looking about the same. After about 3o minutes, the teams took the field though.

Georgie was very excited. Her favorite part was the fireworks during the national anthem. This was a relief because it was exactly that type of fanfare that would scare some one-year-olds

Here's the Big Unit delivering a pitch.

Here's the view from our actual seats, where we never ended up sitting.

And here's the view of the Anacostia River from the top of the right field bleachers.

They are trying to squeeze a double header in today. With clouds like that, I have my doubts.

We stayed 3.5 innings and then Georgie started to get restless. We had a good time running up and down the concourse and I even got Georgie to watch Big Unit throw a few fastballs. But I didn't expect much more than a few innings out of her. So we went home and made a big pizza and Georgie-sized pizza. The cheese is a mozzarella made from goat's milk so it's a nice combination of pizza cheese texture and goat milk flavor. And that's prosciutto and capers on there as well.

This just in: Randy Johnson did indeed join the 300 win club tonight. He pitched 6 innings and the Giants defeated the Nationals 5-1. So Georgie witnessed some baseball history today.

Here's NY Times and Washington Post coverage of the game. Here's something from the Post article to put the game into context:
No active pitcher behind Johnson has strong odds to reach the benchmark. The next 300 game-winner might not come around for another generation, and that's only if the next generation produces workhorses like Johnson, who once threw 260 innings in a season. At age 38.
