Birthday dinner

Nikki took me out for an early birthday dinner today because I had the day (or last night rather) off. We went to Rustico, a restaurant that has a huge beer selection and some delicious gourmet eats. I started out with a Heavy Seas Märzen on cask. For food, we had two small pizzas and a beet salad. One pizza had arugula, duck confit, and crackling. The other was blue cheese, prosciutto, and figs. They were amazing. Georgie especially loved the duck. I guess we have to go out and start buying duck now.

After the meal I order a themed flight of 4-oz. beers called Luke, I'm Your Father. I guess that means darks beers because it included Victory Doppelganger, Stone Smoked Porter, Peak Organic Brown Ale, and BBC Jefferson's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout. Now I'm off to work but I guess the festivities are continuing tomorrow.

What interesting pizzas! (I had to look up "crackling" to see what it is.) Last year I discovered my love of beets - what was in/on the beet salad?

(By the way, if you ever want to make pizza dough at home, I suggest Mark Bittman's recipe. It's REALLY easy, not too messy of a process, and makes a really nice thin, easy to shape crust.)

'Hope you had a good Birthday, Aaron!

The beet salad was DELICIOUS. This one had red and yellow beets in a goat cheese fondue with a blood orange vinaigrette dressing and pistachio dusting. I love beets too. I wish Georgie did, but so far she doesn't. She did like the duck on the pizza, though....
