I Will Miss DC

Note: Pictures on next post.

Or, more specifically, I'll miss my time in DC with Georgie. Today, for instance, was kind of a typical day for us: Wake up a while after Papa gets home, play with him, then we both take a nap with him. Wake up about 1 hr later (sometimes 2 or 3 hours later), play for about an hour, then leave the house, with Georgie in stroller (most days: get in car and go somewhere; other days: put Georgie in carrier and walk to Target or just around our neighborhood). Stop at a store (UPS) on the way to Metro because it's hot outside. Get on elevator down to metro with a couple and their baby in a stroller. Ask them how old she is, they ask me, we both say how cute the other's baby is. Take Georgie out of stroller so she can look around as we walk to get Metro ticket. She's happy to be in a new place, and she loves the Metro, especially all the different lights (which sometimes make her smile and get excited). Go to H&M (sometimes: a museum). Leave when it's time for her to nap again. She naps in stroller on the way back home. Stop at Potbelly and have a sandwich and get one for Aaron for later. Georgie wakes up and smiles at the lady behind us in line. Stop at Target on the way home. Then stop at Mayorga Coffee (not every day). The guy asks if I want my usual (but I do go enough to have a usual....decaf iced latte with peppermint, one shot less than they normally put in). Head home. See the same Latina woman for 3rd day in a row on the way home, she remembers Georgie's name, helps me (because G is trying to wriggle out of her seat), and offers to push the stroller for me (while I carry G). I politely decline and today remember to say "buenas tardes" instead of "hola" (like yesterday) when we part. See our neighbor Forrest getting off his motorbike and talk with him for a minute. Take first load of stuff inside (lots of stuff in stroller). See postman -- my favorite one, chubby and wears his sun visor backwards -- on my second trip; he askes if we're moving and then says "Congratulations." Go inside, G & I play for a bit. G gets a touch fussy so we go for a walk. See our neighbor Ava a few blocks from our house and chat. Go home. Play. Nap. Wait for Papa to get up. Play with Papa. Bathe. Play. Rock to sleep.

I love my days with Georgie.

And I'm glad we live in the city. I just wish we didn't live in a basement. And I wish Aaron had days with us.
